The Backyard Before

Well it’s about that time when the weather warms up and you start working on any outdoor projects, and boy, we sure have a LOT of them! The back of the house and the backyard are our top priorities right now and there’s a lot of things we want to change. Making it a little more private, is just one of them.

Above is the current back-view of our home. It’s virtually been untouched since we moved in about 5 years ago except the for olive green color along the bottom which we experimented with a few years ago. If you can believe there are FIVE outdoor lights above the door, and none of them work! There’s also a huge outdated antenna on top of the roof that needs to come down, but that’s all the boring stuff…

Some more exciting things we’d like to do is create a small patio and BBQ area where to house comes in on the right and make it a comfortable lounge space we can relax in during the evenings. We’d also like to fence in the backyard and have some modern landscaping done during the summer time.

We found this older wood fencing last year in a neighbouring town and decided to scoop them up! We rented a UHaul truck and brought it all home with the help of a friend. We’re hoping they can still be of use to us during the makeover.

During the winter they got pretty beat up, so we’re hoping to reclaim it by fixing it up and giving it a fresh new paint job and weather sealant. We’ll see how it goes!

I really wish had a good “before” photo of the backyard. To the left of the garden shed we had another smaller shed which we gave away since it was just collecting random things and was there since we moved in. We ‘re not crazy about the larger garden shed and are thinking about giving it a “mini-makeover” and moving it so that it blends in with the yard instead of sticking out like an eyesore. There’s lots of planning to do, so we had better get started!
